We are currently searching for NA Sustainability Lead to join our team!

Responsibilities Overview
 
Principle Accountabilities:
  • Provide expert guidance on sustainability compliance, assurance frameworks, and global regulatory requirements.
  • Lead internal sustainability audits and data verification initiatives across North America manufacturing plants.
  • Drive implementation of sustainability standards including ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and energy/emissions certification schemes.
  • Support development and validation of plant-level CO₂ reduction programs in alignment with global Scope 1 & 2 targets.
  • Oversee internal sustainability data quality reviews in collaboration with corporate reporting and operations teams.
  • Serve as technical lead on emissions tracking, SEC climate disclosures, CSRD alignment, and site-level environmental permitting where applicable.
  • Provide strategic input on health, safety, and environmental (HSE) issues that intersect with sustainability goals, including audits, training, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Represent the North America region in global assurance-related initiatives, including EcoVadis assessments and annual reporting.
  • Develop and maintain technical toolkits for site audits, regulatory monitoring, and compliance tracking.
  • Mentor and coach junior staff within the NA sustainability team, fostering a culture of integrity, compliance, and continual improvement.
 Strategic Sustainability Assurance:
  • Act as North America’s internal lead for sustainability and environmental assurance processes.
  • Lead development and rollout of internal sustainability standards and guidelines.
  • Coordinate assurance and verification with third-party auditors, including preparation for sustainability ratings such as EcoVadis.
Regulatory & Technical Leadership:
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert on emissions, energy management systems, and legal compliance across U.S. and international frameworks.
  • Support technical reviews of Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), recycled content claims, and HSE-related compliance where applicable.
  • Engage in continuous benchmarking of U.S. regulatory updates and emerging compliance risks, including GRI and CSRD readiness.
Engagement & Influence:
  • Provide briefings and updates to the EVP North America and regional leadership on sustainability compliance progress.
  • Partner with sales and engineering to respond to customer sustainability assessments, audits, and SAQs.
  • Represent North America in customer dialogues related to assurance, audits, and regulatory alignment  
Miscellaneous topics:  
  • Support overarching global sustainability strategy activities.  
  • Be a part of the global sustainability leadership team.  
  • Individual learning on sustainability topics  
  • Additional duties as assigned. 
Requirements:  
  • Advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Sustainability.
  • Min.10 years of experience across sustainability, environmental auditing, and manufacturing industries.
  • Chartered Engineer/Environmentalist with Lead Auditor certifications in ISO 9001, 14001, 50001, and ESOS.
  • Awareness of Customer Specific Requirements 
  • Awareness of IATF-16949 (ISO 9001) 
  • Awareness of ISO 14001 (Environmental), OH&S (Occupational Health & Safety) 
  • TISAX (information security) 
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability: 
  • Strong understanding of HSE systems, programs, and standards in a manufacturing environment.
  • Deep expertise in GRI, CSRD, SEC climate disclosure preparation, and U.S.-based emissions or sustainability reporting.
  • Strong leadership experience in complex matrix organizations across manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and heavy industry.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to drive cross-functional collaboration between engineering, EHS, HR, and operations.
  • Familiarity with automotive sustainability frameworks is a plus.
