We are currently looking for a Sr Manager, Tooling Engineering located at our Old Fort, NC facility.
General responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Oversee all tooling related responsibilities for the North American business unit.
- Manage a cross functional team taking projects from feasibility/ advanced quote through tooling fabrication and program launch.
- Activities include: tooling specification, tooling design review, tooling design acceptance, tooling runoff verification, & tooling coordination with program management to meet desired timing.
- Coordination with the advanced manufacturing engineering team will be required to ensure the interface between tooling and equipment is accounted for.
Position Specific Responsibilities:
General Tooling Oversight; knowledge and understanding of the following is key:
- Tooling fabrication
- Welding, fastening, joining fixturing and processes
- CNC, milling and machining processes
- Tooling operation:
- Familiarity in electrical and mechanical components and standards for EU, Asia and NA
- Working knowledge of PC, PLC integration and point I/O signaling
- Familiarity in electrical and mechanical components and standards for EU, Asia and NA
- Prototype and production level tooling for cast, composite, fiberglass billet aluminum and wood tooling sets
- Product design GD&T and datum strategy for application to tooling and downstream processes for registration of parts
- Part to tool and part to part interfaces
- Accounting for material behavior to meet part design condition
- Gaging R&R requirements
- Working to achieve the OEM Standards for in-body position and lay flat gages, cast bases, stand-offs and part stability during checking
- PC, PLC integration and point I/O signaling
- Updating of tooling specifications from lessons learned and launch activity
- Confirming bill of tool definition for: cavities, blank sizes and part handling within both automated and manual processes, capital interfaces
- Collaboration with Auria EU and Asian Colleagues for best practices and commonization strategies for tooling sets.
- Tooling cost breakdown and comparisons to result in justification of costs for Commercial discussions
Qualifications:
Education:
- BS/BA degree in Engineering
Travel:
- Up to 50% travel required – (approximately 20% of the required travel will be internationally with emphasis on Canada)
Experience:
- Requires 5+ year’s experience in Tooling
- Experience within an automotive manufacturing environment preferred
- Working level knowledge of OSHA requirements for safety and ergonomics including but not limited to Lock out/Tag Out (Control of Hazardous Energy)
- Experience with textile compression molding process, 3D Trim, CAD/CAM, Inspection & Gauging and Injection Molding
- Experience with procurement of tooling; both domestic and off-shore preferred
- Ability to interface with multiple disciplines
- Ability to drive fast paced objectives with teams and interface with both customer and Auria internal groups
